How to Save On Utility Bills

Over use of energy is not only a wasteful use of our resources, and detrimental to the planet, but it keeps our utility bills high. Every human being should learn how to save on utility bills, and in doing this, they will conserve energy. I’m going to start with the simplest, and maybe the most obvious.

How To Save On Utility Bills Without Losing Your Comfortable Lifestyle

1. Change out your light bulbs to compact fluorescent bulbs. These bulbs are designed to fit right into the standard sockets you may be using right now. Compared to the standard bulbs, they use approximately 1/4 the electrical power, and last ten times longer.

2. Do you have outside decorative lighting? If you enjoy keeping the outside of your home lit up at night, you are sure to benefit by changing out those bulbs for LED lighting. They are very bright, and the energy consumption is just a fraction to that of your standard bulb. How many standard light bulbs are in and around your home?

3. Generally, water bills are not very high, but you can still save money on utility bills by stopping wasteful use of water. Exchange all of your faucets and shower heads in for low flow shower heads and faucets. They don’t cost a lot, you likely will not notice the lower water pressure, and best of all, you will save money.

Here’s a neat trick if you have older toilets in your home…

4. Place a solid object in your toilet tank, something like a sand filled one gallon milk container, or a large soda container. What will happen is, depending on the size of the object you use, you will save that much water every time the toilet is flushed… just because the tank won’t have to fill up as high.

5. Does anyone in your home leave the water running while shaving or brushing? Since we are told to brush our teeth at least twice per day, for as long as it takes one song to play, how many gallons of water will go down the drain if not turned off? How many people in your household contribute to your high water utility bills?

Water tap leaks only appear to be a small waste, but did you know that just one dripping faucet can waste 530 gallons of water each month? Do you have a water leak around your home, or worse yet, more than one dripping faucet?

These methods are only a drop in the bucket savings… here’s the real way how to save on utility bills.
