There are several ways of conserving energy, and there is no better place to start learning ways of conserving energy, than in your own home. Today, I want to mention a interesting facts about compact fluorescent lighting.
A compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) has excellent energy conserving qualities. Compare it to the lifespan of 750-1000 hours from the typical incandescent bulb, a CFL lasts between 6000-15000 hours. That is 8-15 times longer lasting.
These bulbs also do not put output the heat levels that you would find in the standard bulb. The level of heat put out, especially when all of your lighting comes from incandescent lamps, causes you to use even more energy, resulting in higher cooling costs.
CFL’s use only 1/5 – 1/3 the energy than that of a standard light bulb. These kinds of savings really add up over time.
The higher cost of a CFL far outweigh the standard bulb in the benefits department. They will make up for their costs, and not only by a lower power bill, but by doing its part to help clean up the planet, by reducing global warming.
When I was looking for ways of conserving energy, I first replaced all my lighting to CFL’s, but I wanted my electric bill to be much lower than that. I finally gave in and bought a product that taught me how to make my own solar or windmill.
I haven’t built the windmill yet, so I couldn’t tell you how good or bad that works, but I did build my first solar panel about six months ago, and it works great. It looks good too. I’ll get around to getting a photo up for all to see:)
There really are lots of ways of conserving energy, but you need to decide how far you want to take it.
